Choosing Between SIP Panels and Conventional Builds +

Build Consideration

SIP Home Approach

Conventional Build Approach

Build Timeline

Construction stages are more structured, allowing the main building shell to be completed earlier in the process.
Construction progresses gradually on-site, with timelines influenced by sequencing of trades and site conditions.

Planning & Coordination

A higher level of planning is completed upfront, helping align design, structure, and insulation early.
Many decisions and adjustments are made progressively as construction moves forward.

Cost Visibility

Costs are typically defined earlier due to clearer scope and coordination during planning stages.
Costs may evolve as the build progresses and on-site decisions are finalised.

On-Site Activity

Shorter periods of intensive on-site work, with components arriving ready for installation.
Longer on-site activity with materials and components assembled progressively.

Build Consistency

Panels are manufactured in controlled conditions, supporting consistency across the structure.
Build quality depends on on-site workmanship and sequencing across different stages.

Thermal Comfort

Integrated insulation and structure help support consistent indoor temperatures.
Thermal performance depends on how insulation and air sealing are installed on-site.

Energy Performance

Reduced heating and cooling demand due to a more continuous building envelope.
Energy performance varies depending on design, materials, and installation quality.

Homeowner Involvement

Earlier decisions can help reduce the need for frequent on-site involvement later.
Homeowners may be more involved throughout the build as decisions arise.

Overall Experience

A more defined and predictable build pathway from planning to completion.
A flexible approach that allows decisions to be made progressively during construction.

Building a home is about confident decisions, and understanding the system turns uncertainty into clarity and progress.
